Karnataka Wins 6 National Panchayat Awards: Setting a National Example in Rural Development

Karnataka’s gram panchayats sweep six national honours in the 2025 Panchayat Awards, cementing the state’s place as a leader in grassroots governance.

Rural development is not just about laying roads, supplying drinking water, or rolling out government schemes on paper. Real development means transforming lives — generating employment, empowering women, and building a secure future for the next generation. Once again, Karnataka has proven this in practice, drawing national attention for its work at the grassroots level.

Karnataka’s Six National Panchayat Awards 2025

In the National Panchayat Awards 2025, announced by the Union Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Karnataka secured a total of six national awards, ranking among the best-performing states in panchayat governance. The state’s gram panchayats were recognised for outstanding work across poverty alleviation, healthcare, child development, water management, infrastructure, and social security.

These awards go beyond ceremonial recognition for panchayat offices — they represent national acknowledgment of the dedication of rural communities, the leadership of elected representatives, and the active participation of villagers in shaping their own development.

Udupi District Earns National-Level Pride

Udupi district stands out this year, with multiple gram panchayats honoured at the national level across different categories

Mudradi Gram Panchayat — ₹1 Crore First Prize

The Mudradi Gram Panchayat of Hebri taluk, Udupi district, claimed first place nationally in the “Poverty-Free and Livelihood Development” category. Strengthening women’s self-help groups, generating local employment, empowering farmers, achieving 100% drinking water connectivity, and effectively implementing government schemes were the key factors behind this achievement. Special credit goes to the panchayat’s focus on women’s entrepreneurship within its jurisdiction.

Vandse Gram Panchayat’s Achievement in Healthcare

Vandse Gram Panchayat of Kundapur taluk secured second place nationally for outstanding performance in health services. The panchayat developed a unique doorstep healthcare delivery system for senior citizens, bedridden patients, and vulnerable groups. Its efforts to strengthen health awareness and care systems at the village level earned it national recognition.

Priority for Children’s Future: Halayanakahalli Gram Panchayat

Halayanakahalli Gram Panchayat in Bengaluru Urban district received a national-level award in the Child-Friendly Panchayat category. Digital classrooms, smart anganwadis, special schemes for children’s education, and improved school enrolment brought this panchayat national recognition for its work securing children’s futures.

Karnataka’s Model in Water Management

Madamakki Gram Panchayat secured second place nationally in the Effective Water Management category. Rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharge, 100% drinking water connectivity to households, and continuous water quality monitoring were the measures responsible for this achievement.

A New Direction for Rural Development

Two more panchayats added to Karnataka’s tally of national honours:

  • Sanur Gram Panchayat — Infrastructure Development category
  • Hakladi Gram Panchayat — Social Security and Equality category

These wins show Karnataka’s panchayats are setting new benchmarks in good governance and public service across rural areas.

An Inspiration for Villages Across India

When a gram panchayat succeeds, the benefits reach thousands of families. Good roads, clean drinking water, employment opportunities, healthcare access, and quality education strengthen village development as a whole.

Karnataka’s gram panchayats are sending a clear message to the nation:

“Development does not begin only from cities; it can lead the country forward from villages too.”
